The 39-year-old singer said she also needed counselling and developed an eating disorder after being propelled to international stardom, reported Daily Star.
"Being a pop star is so tough. It really is. It's hard because you are achieving your dreams but getting incredibly tired in the head at the same time.
"There are so many pitfalls - whether it's drink, drugs, financial, relationships with family, friends and partners. It's a real minefield," she said.
Mel C was catapulted to fame in 1996 along with Melanie Brown, Emma Bunton, Geri Halliwell and Victoria Beckham. The Spice Girls went on to sell more than 80 million records and became a pop phenomenon the world over.
