CPI-M general secretary Sitaram Yechury today indicated that the party was considering entering into an alliance with the Congress in West Bengal but the decision was left to the party's state committee.
He said that the central committee would take a final call if the state committee took a favourable decision.
"It was not the agenda of the plenum to discuss the matter. As far as election tactics are concerned, the state committees will discuss and take the decision on the basis of the concrete situation. Once the state committees have taken the decision, they will send us (central committee & politburo) the proposal and we will take the final call," Yechury told reporters on the sidelines of the concluding session.
Yesterday, Prakash Karat had said that "flexibility tactics" was always there in the party to deal with emerging political situations and added that there was nothing called "yes" and "no" in politics.
Yechury on Monday had said the decision and discussion in this regard would be taken up in the month of January.
There is intense speculation in political circles over the likelihood of an alliance coming up between the CPI-M and the Congress, both are in a state of disarray, in the state ahead of the election to oust the TMC in power.
The CPI-M today ended its five-day plenum which it held after a gap of 37 years to revamp the party organisation. More than 400 leaders, including politburo and central committee members, attended the plenum.
