The rich cultural and ethnic heritage of India, including cuisine and handicrafts from across the country, is being showcased here as part of a festival, 'Bharat Parv', which got underway today on the Red Fort lawns.
Organised by the government to mark the 67th Republic Day, the four-day event continues till January 29.
Secretary of the Ministry of Tourism, Vinod Zutshi, inaugurated the event.
"I hope that 'Bharat Parv' would become an integral part of Republic Day celebrations in the coming years," he said.
A crafts bazaar has been organised by the Ministry of Textiles while the best tableaux of the Republic Day, too, are on display at the event.
There is a separate section showcasing street food from across the country with the National Association of Street Vendors of India (NASVI) having set up stalls along with various hotel management institutes.
Cultural performances, including folk and tribal dances from various states, as well as music programmes will be organised by the culture ministry during the event.
There will be performances by Armed Forces' bands on all four days.
Entry to the event is free and open to all. However, visitors must carry a valid ID proof.
The timings for the event are from 12 noon to 9 PM on January 27, 28 and 29.
Last year, the 'Bharat Parv' event was held as part of the Independence Day celebrations from August 3-15 in New Delhi.
