Senior Congress MLA Manas Bhunia today wrote to West Bengal Assembly Speaker Biman Banerjee seeking security and a place to sit in the House, four days after party legislators sent a proposal to AICC to suspend him for alleged anti-party activities and disrespecting state leadership.
"I have no place to sit in the Assembly. No other MLA has ever faced such a situation. I apprehend physical assault. I wrote a letter to the Speaker, who is the custodian of the House, giving all details and sought a place to sit," he told reporters here.
Without naming Leader of Opposition Abdul Mannan, Bhunia said "Our party leader said he cannot do anything if I am challenged in our room (in the house). It is dangerous."
Stating that the Speaker is also the guardian of all MLAs, Bhunia said he sought security from him.
The senior Congress leader said he has written to AICC president Sonia Gandhi, vice-president Rahul Gandhi and C P Joshi who is in charge of the state in this regard.
"I am loyal to the party high command and never disobeyed them. Yet such incidents are taking place with me here," he said.
Bhunia had strained relations with the state Congress leadership for accepting the post of chairman of Public Accounts Committee, defying the party's stand. The party wanted the post to be given to Sujon Chakraborty of CPI-M.
State Congress President Adhir Chowdhury had accused Bhunia of working on the behalf of TMC and said the party would not tolerate such indiscipline.
