Bihar court convicts 15 in 2012 hooch tragedy case

A local court today convicted 15 people in a hooch tragedy case in which 21 Mahadalits died in the Bhojpur district here six years ago.

Additional District and Sessions Judge Ramesh Chandra Dwivedi held all the accused guilty under various sections of the IPC, the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act and the Excise Act.

The quantum of sentence would be pronounced on Thursday, government lawyer Satyendra Kumar Singh said.

They face a minimum punishment of 10 years in jail and the maximum of a life term, he said.

On December 7, 2012, a total of 21 people died after consuming spurious liquor in Arrah's Anaith locality under Nawada police station area.
