Bihar Legislative Council was today adjourned sine die following addresses by its Chairman Awadhesh Narayan Singh and Chief Minister Jitan Ram Manjhi.
"The 177th session of the Legislative Council is ending today. Altogether 22 sittings were organised during this Budget Session. Several state and public related issues were raised during this period through questions, call attentions and information during Zero Hour," Singh told the Upper House.
Referring to the clash between JD(U) and BJP members on July 24, the Chairman said during the course of debate and counter-debate in the House, a situation of emotional excitement and logjam developed, but was solved the very next day due to positive approach and agreement between leaders from all parties, Chief Minister and Leader of the Opposition.
Speaking in the Council, Chief Minister Jitan Ram Manjhi thanked everybody for conducting themselves in a peaceful and amicable manner.
"Altogether 1,273 questions came of which 1,075 were accepted by the Chairman and 317 were answered. I hope the pending questions are taken up during the next session," said Manjhi.
The Chief Minister also pointed out that 210 call attention motions were brought in the Upper House of which 125 were accepted and the state government provided its statement on 47 of them.
Six important bills were passed during the session, including Bihar Panchayati Raj (Amendment) Bill, Bihar Finance Bill and Bihar Technical Staff Selection Commission Bill.
The House also condoled the death of actor Zohra Sehgal, author Madhukar Singh, journalist Kumar Surendra Singh, former minister Chandra Shekhar Singh, former legislators Chintamani Sharan Nath Shahdeo, Chunni Lal Rajvanshi, Ram Pravesh Rai, Jagdish Chaudhary and Nitishwar Prasad Singh.
