ED Director Rajan S Katoch takes over a Heavy Industries Secy

Senior IAS officer Rajan S Katoch today took over as Heavy Industries Ministry Secretary.
A 1979-batch IAS officer of Madhya Pradesh cadre, Katoch has been heading the Enforcement Directorate (ED) under the Finance Ministry for over two years.
A senior official said Katoch took charge at his new office in the morning.
He will be keeping the charge of ED chief in additional capacity till a new Director is appointed by the government.
Incumbent Secretary in the Heavy Industries department Sutanu Behuria retired yesterday.
The appointment of Katoch has been cleared by the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC) headed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on July 13.

The officer, who was appointed as ED chief in March 2012, has been credited with bringing in some of the best practices in the enforcement wing of the Finance Ministry which deals with cases the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA) and Foreign Exchange Management Act (FEMA).
A post-graduate in economics, Katoch has served in the Ministry of Commerce, besides holding a number of posts in his parent cadre.
