The body of a youth was found near a temple in the district today from where three 'ashtadhatu' (metal alloy) idols of Lord Rama, Sita and Lakshman were also found missing.
Deputy Superintendent of Police Teghra Harishankar Kumar said the idols were stolen from Ram Janki temple in Dih village late last night and the 20-year-old was killed so that there was no witness to the crime.
The idols are worth lakhs of rupees, he said.
Angry over the incident, locals agitated during the day and withdrew their protest only after assurance by the police that the idols would be recovered soon and the youth's killers be caught.
