Bill to empower govt to remove VCs tabled in TN assembly

Tamil Nadu government today introduced a bill in the Assembly to amend the Acts of 12 state-run universities to arm with powers to remove Vice Chancellor and to apply certain other service rules on its teaching and non-teaching staff.
Higher Education Minister P Palaniappan introduced the bill in the House.
Since the certain sections of the respective Acts, which govern 12 state-run universities did not contain provision for the removal of Vice Chancellor, application of Tamil Nadu Civil Services (Discipline and Appeal) Rules, 1955, the Tamil Nadu Government Servants' Conduct Rules, 1973 and other such rules to the officers, teachers and employees of the University, the government has decided to amend the Acts suitably, according to the statement of objects and reasons.

Amendments are to be made in Acts governing Madras University, Madurai Kamaraj University, Anna University, Bharathidasan University, Bharathiar University, Mother Teresa Women's University, Alagappa University, Manonmaniam Sundaranar University, Periyar University, Tamil Nadu Open University, Thiruvalluvar University and Tamil Nadu Teachers Education University.
