The ruling party on the other hand said that Opposition's assessment on the issue was "not true" and their allegations were "more a political game than anything else".
"Nothing has been done to put down this communal frenzy. What happened in Pune? What happened in Gurgaon? We don't find any responsible statement from the people here...Either from the Prime Minister or from the Home Minister," senior Congress leader M Veerappa Moily said.
Coming down heavily on the Modi Government, the former Union Minister also alleged that some leaders of the BJP and Sangh Parivar had been making "provocative statements" and the Centre was "doing nothing to ensure that communal harmony is maintained in the country".
Union Minister and BJP MP from Gurgaon Rao Inderjeet Singh rejected the Congress' allegation, saying that the Narendra Modi-led government belongs to all castes, communities and religion.
Asked about the Congress allegations that the communal tension was increasing in the country after BJP came to power at the Centre, Singh, who is the Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Planning, Statistics and Programme, said, "I don't think that is a true assessment."
"I think it is more a political game than anything else. While the BJP has come into power, it has tried its best, including the Prime Minister's statements...It has tried its best to show that the Prime Minister is the Prime Minister of all castes, communities and religions," he said.
Singh also rejected reports that there were communal clashes in Gurgaon.
He said that in Gurgaon the violences occurred following the death of a person in an accident.
"There was no communal flare up as such...Everything is under control. There is nothing to worry about," the Gurgaon MP said.
