BJP today criticised the Uttar Pradesh government for appointing officials in an "arbitrary manner", saying the same was responsible for dismal law and order situation in the state.
State BJP spokesman Manoj Misra said in a statement that the state government was appointing officials in an arbitrary manner and there was no clear transfer policy in the state.
"There is no clear suspension, revocation and transfer policy in the state... Transfers and postings are being done on the whims of the government and there is no place for merit in it," Misra said.
Referring to the removal of SP, Sambhal district, he said that it amounts to harassment of the officer.
The SP was removed yesterday, a day after an FIR was filed against senior minister Iqbal Mahmood in the district.
Alleging that "honest and upright officials are being harassed," he said "postings are made on lucrative posts to safeguard the interests of people in power whether it is the case of IAS officer Durgashakti Nagpal or SP of Sambhal, Piyush Srivastava".
Misra said when the government is not honest in posting officials, how can any improvement be expected in the law and order situation of the state.
"Posting of incapable officials on important posts is the reason of dismal law and order, murder, loot and rape," he said.
The BJP leader demanded a transparent policy in this regard based on merit and punishment to incapable officials.
