Accusing Congress government in Karnataka of showing negligence in unearthing the "conspiracy" behind the brutal murder of a Bajrang Dal activist who was involved in busting illegal slaughter houses at Moodbidri in Mangalore district, BJP today demanded handing over the case to CBI for probe.
State BJP President Prahlad Joshi warned that the party would hit the streets if the state government did not treat the murder of Bajrang Dal activist Prashant Poojary seriously.
29-year old Poojary, a flower vendor who had led raids on illegal slaughter houses was hacked to death by six bike-borne men armed with lethal weapons at Moodabirdi, 40 kms from Mangaluru, on October 9. Eight persons have been arrested in this connection.
The brutal attack had happened 12 days after 50-year-old Mohammad Akhlaq was lynched by a mob at Dadri in Uttar Pradesh over beef eating rumours, that led to a nation-wide outrage.
Speaking to reporters here, Joshi also demanded that Mangaluru Police Commissioner S Murugan be recalled as he is not competent to supervise the case.
Joshi said Murugan had issued an "irresponsible" statement that some misguided youths had carried out the attack on Poojary out of personal enmity, which showed lack of interest in unearthing the "conspiracy" behind the murder.
He demanded a compensation of Rs 25 lakh to the family of Poojary.
The BJP leader alleged that the Popular Front of India was indulging "militant activities" and government should take steps to ban it.
