BJP demands DGP resignation

The state BJP today demanded the resignation of West Bengal Director General of Police G M P Reddy who told the Calcutta High Court that Trinamool Congress leader Anubrata Mondal's alleged inflammatory speech and the Parui murder case were not felt to be related.
"He has brought disrepute to the state police force. He must immediately resign. He is scared of the ruling political party goons and has no right to stay in the post anymore," state BJP president Rahul Sinha told reporters here.
He said there was an incident in Bolpur yesterday also where the police was attacked, but no one was arrested.

"Police is getting beaten up and the DGP has misused his position to save the culprits," Sinha alleged.
The High Court had asked DGP Reddy to explain why chargesheet was filed by a Special Investigation Team (SIT) in the Parui murder case without taking leave of the court, which is monitoring the investigation.
Mondal's name did not appear in the chargesheet filed before a trial court at Siuri in Birbhum district, where he is the district president of the ruling Trinamool Congress.

The BJP also said they would seek the intervention of Governor Keshari Nath Tripathi for peaceful conduct of the Assembly by-elections in the state, when Sinha along with senior party leader Siddharth Nath Singh would meet him tomorrow.

"The police have filed a false case against our Chowringhee seat candidate Ritesh Tiwari and other workers after they were attacked during a campaign. We will complain to the Governor on how police have misused its power in this case. It was a planned conspiracy," Sinha said.
In the meantime, Congress leader Jayprakash Majumdar today joined the BJP.
