In a press release, BJP's Go Samrakshana Prakosth (Cow Protection Cell) convener, Siddharth Goenka hit out at the police for "blaming" animal rights activist Nandini for the violence at Talaghattapura near here.
Nandini had gone to the spot on October 14 when she came to know that an illegal abattoir was operating in Talaghattapura.
She was allegedly attacked and her car damaged.
"I stoutly denounce the statement by police that the mob became violent when Nandini caused an accident," he said.
He accused the government machinery of allowing the illegal abattoirs to operate in the state.
Twenty-three people have been arrested on charges of rioting in two incidents when animal right activists visited sites where cows were either allegedly slaughtered or cow meat was sold, according to police.
