Expressing hopes that the bill would be passed in the Budget session, Mitra today said it was not correct for his party to oppose the GST when it was introduced by the UPA government in 2011.
"The senior BJP leadership is in touch with Congress over the GST Bill. The bill is likely to be passed in the Budget session which may be preponed," Mitra said at an interactive session with MCC Chamber of Commerce and Industry.
Mitra said opposing just for the sake of opposition is not good and national interest should also be kept in mind.
With the GST in place the country can clock at least an additional one per cent in the national GDP, he said.
