A BJP member today created flutter in the Lok Sabha by making certain remarks against a host of Congress leaders including Vice President Rahul Gandhi, triggering sharp protest from the opposition party.
Virendra Singh, member from Bhadoi in Uttar Pradesh, said while the Congress is talking about the pain of the farmers, their leaders Rahul Gandhi and Jyotiraditya Scindia had no knowledge about farming or agriculturists and cannot even distinguish between bajra, jowar and wheat.
"They have known farmers through books and I have learnt about farmers by toiling in field. I have grown enough food grains, which the seven generations of the Scindia's must have not grown," he said while participating in a discussion on drought situation and farmers' condition.
He also attacked Rahul Gandhi for his "suit boot ki sarkar" remark, saying it does not behove him as the Congress party had been dealing with "suitcases".
"They (the Congress) say this is a suit-boot-ki sarkar. For all these years, they thought a King can be born only to a Queen, but that's not the case now. They are not able to digest the fact that a person from humble background has become the Prime Minister," he said.
Targeting Scindia, he said he still is called as "maharaj" even though the world has changed.
The BJP member made certain other comments which evoked strong response from Congress members.
Scindia asked the Deputy Speaker M Thambidurai as to "how can such objectionable matter" can go on record.
To this, Thambidurai said, nothing unparliamentary will go on record.
Virendra Singh was responding to Congress leader Mallikarjun Kharge's attack on the government in which he questioned what it had done for the farmers.
Kharge said the previous Congress-led government had given a loan waiver of Rs 72,000 crore.
To this, Singh said, "This only benefited the banks and farmers. Bundelkand is a part of both Uttar Pradesh and Madhya Pradesh. But the condition in the Madhya Pradesh is better than the parts in UP. Scindia conveniently overlooks it.
