A BJP MP today accused the parliamentarians from the Telugu Desam Party (TDP) of "gross misuse" of the Parliament premises for "cheap publicity" and urged the speaker for action against them, saying their act endangered the security and undermined the stature of Parliament.
Rajya Sabha MP G V L Narasimha Rao urged Lok Sabha Speaker Sumitra Mahajan to act against the TDP members for "bringing disrepute to the institution of Parliament" and suggested that she refer the matter to the Joint Committee on Security to recommend appropriate action.
Rao is also a member of the Joint Parliamentary Committee on Security in Parliament House Complex.
Later, in a tweet, he described the N Chandrababu Naidu-led TDP as the "Total Drama Party".
In a letter to Mahajan, the BJP leader said he had received complaints from other MPs, the public and the media in this regard.
The TDP members had been organising protests, demonstrations and "dharna" inside the complex, he added.
"These protests are objectionable because you (speaker) and the Rajya Sabha chairman have given ample opportunities to the TDP MPs in the two houses of Parliament to express their views," Rao said.
The no-confidence motion moved by the TDP against the BJP-led government was discussed for an entire day in the Lok Sabha, he added.
One of the TDP members had been appearing in Parliament in different costumes and get up to attract media attention, Rao said, claiming that the MPs of the party were trying to reduce the parliamentary proceedings to a mockery.
The BJP leader quoted from the "Handbook for Members of Rajya Sabha" to question the conduct of the TDP MPs.
The TDP has been running a campaign against the Narendra Modi government for rejecting its demand for granting Andhra Pradesh the "special category" status.
