BJP held a meeting of its core committee here today and discussed recent political developments in the Punjab.
The meeting comes against the backdrop of reported move of the state government to transfer Sikh convicts lodged outside the Punjab to different jails in the state.
Yesterday, 1993 Delhi blast convict Devinder Pal Singh Bhullar was shifted to the Amritsar Central Jail from Delhi's Tihar Jail amid tight police security.
"We discussed many issues including those pertaining to recent political developments in the State," Punjab BJP President Kamal Sharma said after the meeting.
Amid reports that more jailed ex-militants hailing from Punjab and lodged in jails outside may be shifted to the State, Sharma categorically stated that "BJP has not been consulted on this matter".
"They have not talked to us in this regard. We were also not consulted when it was decided to shift Bhullar to Punjab," he said, adding that the saffron party will raise this issue with the Akalis and the Chief Minister at an appropriate time.
Notably, differences between the two partners have cropped up in the past as well on some issues including those relating to development and the drug issue.
Yesterday, some ministers of the BJP in the SAD-BJP government had stayed away from a meeting of Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal that was held to discuss arrangements for the proposed visit of Prime Minister Narendra Modi to Anandpur Sahib on June 19.
Asked about the proposed visit of the PM, Sharma said,"We have asked our party cadre to make preparations for the event at Anandpur Sahib."
The meeting also took stock of the coalition government working, besides how to further take forward the mass contact programme launched by the BJP in the state, he added.
