'BJP-Sena govts biggest crisis, should be ousted from power'

Maharashtra Congress chief Ashok Chavan Tuesday attacked the BJP-Shiv Sena governments at the Centre and the state terming them as the "biggest crisis", and said his party would fight till they were ousted from power.

Speaking during the fourth phase of Congress' Jan Sangharsh Yatra in Kalamb in Yavatmal district, Chavan hit out at the governments over the issues of agriculture, Maratha reservation, employment, law and order, among others.

"The BJP-Shiv Sena governments at the Centre and in the state are the biggest crisis. The Congress has undertaken the yatra to tackle the crisis. And that fight will not stop till the governments are dislodged," a statement quoted Chavan as saying at a rally in Yavatmal.

He said the governments have miserably failed to carry forward the developmental works implemented by the erstwhile UPA government at the Centre and the Democratic Front dispensation in the state.

"No mentionable work has been carried out by these governments in the last four-and-a-half years and the people of the country are being deceived by them," Chavan said.

The number of suicide by farmers is growing due to the "anti-farmer policies" of the government, he alleged.

"Over 17,000 farmers in progressive Maharashtra have committed suicide in the last four-and-a-half years of the BJP-Sena rule," the Congress leader said.

Calling BJP and Shiv Sena as two sides of the same coin, he said they have betrayed the people through false assurances.

"Modi's 'Beti bachao, beti padhao' programme is a mockery as atrocities against women continue unabated across the country while the government remains a mute spectator," he said.

"Farmers, women and unemployed youths in the country were at the receiving end and the government is incapable of solving their problems," he added.

He also hit out at the BJP for allegedly trying to claim credit for the passage of a bill proposing 16 per cent reservation to Marathas in jobs and education.

"The credit goes to the entire community. Those who are boasting about giving reservation to Marathas should also explain about Muslim and Dhangar quotas," Chavan quipped.

Former Union minister Vilas Muttemwar, party leaders Balasaheb Thorat and Manikrao Thakre, All India Congress Committee secretary Ashish Dua and others also took part in the yatra.
