The workers, led by district unit President Nandakumar, were seeking immediate replacement of Radhakrishnan with a loyal and son of the soil worker, party sources said.
The agitation by the BJP activists forced the BJP leadership to rush the General Secretary (Organisation) Mohanraj from Chennai to Coimbatore.
After discussions, the BJP workers decided to withdraw their day-long hunger strike.
"After holding discussions with senior leaders and also the dissidents, Mohanraj assured the agitators that he would take up the issue with the party higher ups, based on which the workers withdrew their fast," party sources said.
Future course of action will be decided, after the response from the party, he said.
