A day after the Supreme Court struck down reservations for Jats, the Bhartiya Kisan Union (BKU) today said that the NDA government has not supported the reservation strongly enough in court.

"It was due to NDA government's poor pleading that the apex court cancelled the Jat reservation," BKU President Naresh Tikait said.

The Supreme Court has yesterday set aside the notification issued by the UPA government to include Jats in the Central list of Other Backward Classes (OBC) for according benefits of reservation to them.

Tikait said the government should take steps to provide reservation to Jat community as it is necessary for their upliftment.
