The Andhra Pradesh Government has deputed its teachers in a private school for visually impaired children, where three boys were allegedly beaten up by the school principal in East Godavari district of that state.
"As an interim measure, we have put our people, Government teachers in-charge of the institution. We have removed the Correspondent and earlier management from running the school," Andhra Pradesh Social Welfare Minister Ravela Kishore Babu said here today.
Warning stern action against those involved in the "merciless" act, Babu said that the Correspondent and Principal of the school have already been remanded.
"Laws are already available. Child Abuse Act is there. Child Rights Act is there and acts related to disabled persons are there. We have to only implement the laws," he said in reply to a query on whether the State Government was contemplating to enact new laws for protection of students with disabilities.
TV channels had aired on Monday video footage of a school principal brutally caning visually challenged boys, aged between 9 and 13 years, in Kakinada town of Andhra Pradesh's East Godavari district. The police later arrested the principal, who was also visually challenged, and another school official.
The footage purportedly showed the principal pushing one of the boys to the wall and was seen assisted by another person in the act.
