The bodies of a man and a teenage girl were Sunday fished out from the Sabarmati River near Ambedkar Bridge here, a day after they allegedly committed suicide, police said.
Kamlesh Parmar (26), a resident of Vijapur in Mehsana district, and Shweta Parmar (16), hailing from Danilimda locality here, had jumped into the river on Saturday, a Sabarmati Riverfront West police station official said.
"They were identified by the identity cards recovered from Kamlesh. No suicide note has been recovered. Prima facie, it appears the couple entered into a suicide pact and jumped into the river after tying each other's hands with a handkerchief," he said.
He said the couple took the extreme step apparently as their parents had opposed their marriage, adding that a probe into the incident was underway.
