Yesteryear Bollywood director Lekh Tandon's mobile phone has been stolen from a hotel here allegedly by a woman who sweet-talked him to direct her upcoming project, police said today.
Tandon (85), who shares the Filmfare best screenplay award for his 1978 movie 'Dulhan Wahi Jo Piya Man Bhaye' with others and has directed many television serials as well, was contacted by the woman over phone saying she wanted to meet him to discuss her movie, they said.
"Tandon, a resident of Powai, came to the hotel on October 22 and met the woman who is in her 30's. While holding discussions, the woman asked Tandon for his Apple iPhone 5 saying battery of her phone is drained out and she wanted to contact someone urgently.
"As unsuspecting Tandon handed over his phone, she walked away from the spot with his phone costing around Rs 30,000," said Thane Nagar police station officer SV Gaikwad.
Tandon lodged a complaint with police last night and a case has been registered against the unidentified woman under section 420 (cheating and dishonestly inducing delivery of property) of Indian Penal Code.
Tandon's filmography comprises 'Professor' (1962), 'Amrapali' (1966), 'Do Rahain', 'Uttarayan', to name a few.
He has also acted in movies including 'Swades', 'Paheli', 'Rang de Basanti', 'Chennai Express' of late.
