Bomb hurled at BJP worker's house, 18 bombs seized in Kannur

In stray incidents of violence, a country bomb was hurled at the house of a BJP worker at Koyilandy in Kozhikode while 18 crude bombs were seized from Kannur Monday.

Police said the number of people arrested in connection with the recent violenct incidents has touched 6,914.

The bomb was hurled at the BJP worker's house Monday morning and window panes were shattered, but none was injured.

At Panur in Thalassery in Kannur district, 18 powerful country-made bombs were seized by police.

The bombs were made recently, they said.

Police said at Manjeri in Malappuram district, an incident of stone throwing was reported.

According to police, 2,187 cases have been registered and 6,914 arrested in the violence witnessed in the state in the past few days.

While 5,960 have been released on bail, 954 persons have been remanded to judicial custody.

The state had witnessed unpredented violence after two women in their forties-- Bindu and Kanakadurga, offered prayers at the Ayyappa shrine in Sabarimala on January 2 and during the hartal called by various Hindu outfits to protest the women's entry the next day.

Slamming the BJP-RSS over the recent violence on the women entry issue, Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan said the CPI(M)-led LDF government would take stringent action against those indulging in violence and would not be cowed down by threats and intimidation.

Addressing a press conference at Thiruvanathapuram, he also said the government would take stringent actions against the sangh parivar activists who had unleashed violence in the name of January 3 hartal and the following violence.

BJP President P S Sreedharan Pillai, who visited the homes of party workers which had come under attack, demanded a judicial probe in the manner in which the two women were taken inside the hill temple on January 2.
