Thirty preschool children attending public-run day care centers in the Bosnian capital Sarajevo have been hospitalized after showing signs of food poisoning.
In all, 91 children out of some 2,800 attending the 29 centers in Sarajevo reported to the Kosevo hospital on today.
Hospital officials said the number of parents bringing their children in with similar symptoms has continued to grow. The children have fever, diarrhea and abdominal cramping, the symptoms hospital officials said were common in salmonella poisoning.
Preschool service managers said all their food is prepared in a central kitchen. Sanitary inspectors took samples to determine whether it was the source of the illness.
