Police today foiled an alleged bid to smuggle bovines in Samba district of Jammu and Kashmir and rescued 15 animals.
A police party at a check post on the highway in the Baber Nallah area had signalled a vehicle to stop today for routine inspection, but the driver accelerated and escaped, an official said.
Personnel in pursuit of the vehicle found it abandoned after some time and the driver missing, he said.
The vehicle was seized and the bovines were rescued from it, he said, adding that a case was registered in this regard.
