A day after getting notice for his utterances against party's senior leadership, former CWC member Jagmit Singh Brar today hit back at Punjab Congress chief Partap Singh Bajwa and asked him to "stick to the book and constitution of the party".
"My leader Sonia Gandhi (Congress chairperson) has appointed you (Bajwa) the PCC president and I respect her decision. Please stick to the book and constitution of the party," Brar said in his reply to the notice issued by Bajwa to him.
"Only the Congress general secretary in charge Punjab affairs can issue me a notice of clarification regarding my statements to the media. By writing to me on behalf of Shakeel Ahmed (AICC general secretary), you have committed a technical error," he said in his reply to Bajwa's notice.
He said the organisation is "supreme" and he is member of the AICC and remained member of the CWC for several years.
"The issues raised by me are of national importance and for the future of the Congress organisation," he said.
He urged Bajwa to "restrain" his office bearers and MLA's not to go to the press without studying and analysing his statements in the context of "larger interest" of the party.
Taking a serious note of the "irresponsible and highly undesirable utterances" of the former MP and senior leader from Punjab, Bajwa had issued a show cause notice to him yesterday seeking explanation for his conduct by August 5.
Bajwa said the notice had been issued following the directive from the AICC general secretary and in charge of Punjab affairs Shakeel Ahmed.
Brar had created a flutter with his remarks that there was "no harm" if Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi take a two-year break in the wake of the Lok Sabha polls debacle.
Congress's Deputy Leader in the Lok Sabha and former chief minister Amarinder Singh had also criticised Brar over his remarks.
