Munger Civil Surgeon Rameshwar Mahto told PTI today that the pregnant woman Soni Devi, a native of Basudeopur locality of Munger town, was taken to the operation theatre for a cesarean section when the first tremor was felt at about 12.35 PM yesterday.
Sensing the tremor, the staff in the Munger District Hospital ran out for safety in the open.
The Civil Surgeon rushed to the OT after receiving information about the doctor who had stayed back and remained with them in the hour of crisis.
They came out of the OT only after delivery of a healthy baby.
Mahto said the doctors simply followed the Hippocratic Oath which medical students take on joining the MBBS course.
"We take pledge to serve human beings sincerely and that is what the lady doctor and the others did," he said with a sense of pride.
Munger District Magistrate Amrendra Kumar Singh who was informed about the incident came to the district hospital and congratulated the doctors.
"They displayed an immense sense of duty which deserves praise," the DM said.
