The 48 Border Road Task Force located at Demwe and its subunits at Hayuliang and Changwaniti respectively went into operational mode and a new 140ft bailey bridge was launched and opened for traffic within a record time by December 31 last, official sources informed here today.
The restoration came after the district administration requested the BRO for help and early restoration of road connectivity saying the state governor is expected to visit the district headquarters and Walong in couple of days' time.
This resulted in excessive stress on the Sarti bailey bridge that got bent from the centre and finally collapsed.
According to reports, a two-year-old child lost his life in the tragic incident in which more than six persons, including the mother of the child, sustained injuries sources added.
