BSP members today walked out of Uttar Pradesh Assembly over the the issue of losses to farmers due to rains and hailstorm, while BJP and Congress members entered the well of the House, forcing it to be adjourned for 10 minutes.

As soon as the House met, BJP and Congress members demanded a discussion on losses suffered by farmers due to unseasonal rains by adjourning the proceedings of Question Hour.

When Speaker Mata Prasad Pandey said an issue was accepted for discussion during Zero Hour, BJP and Congress members jumped into the well of the House pressing their demand.

Leader of Opposition Swami Prasad Maurya too demanded immediate discussion on the important issue stating that farmers had to suffer heavy losses due to the rains and hailstorm.

They later walked out of the House alleging that the state government was not serious on the issues of farmers.

Parliamentary Affairs Minister Mohd Azam Khan said the issue could be discussed but the way in which BSP members walked out of the House showed that they only wanted to make news and it was tantamount to ridiculing the farmers.

"On such an important issue, political mileage should not be taken", he said, the government was taking the issue seriously and advocated for adjournment of House for ten minutes so that something could be chalked out in this regard.

Attacking Khan, Maurya said though the minister was taking about sensitivity and seriousness, there were only a few ministers and ruling party MLAs in the House.

The Speaker later adjourned the House for ten minutes and asked opposition leaders to his room for discussion. However, they did not go there.
