commodities, Bengal Taxi Association has written to West Bengal government demanding immediate rise in taxi fares.
The base fare for a taxi ride should be raised from Rs 25 to Rs 28, BTA general secretary Bimal Guha said today.
"Though prices of diesel has gone down, but there has been a huge jump of prices in everyday commodities. It should be considered. There must be a revised fare for taxis in the city," Guha said at a press conference here.
Currently, one has to pay a base fare of Rs 25 for getting in cabs in the city, be it a yellow or the blue-white ones. After a two-kilometre ride, for every 200m, a passenger has to pay Rs 2.40, which the BTA demanded to be raise by 40 paise to Rs 2.80.
