Defecating in open may be a ground for disqualification for select contractual jobs under Swacch Bharat campaign in Kurukshetra district of Haryana.
According to jobs advertised by District Rural Development Agency (DRDA), Kurukshetra, preference will be given to those who have a toilet at their home.
The candidates will also need to give an undertaking that they don't defecate in the open, the notification said.
Advertisements were issued by the DRDA, Kurukshetra, in leading dailies yesterday, which said that while recruiting 'block coordinators' and 'cluster motivators', preference will be given to those candidates who have a toilet in their house and don't "defecate in the open".
These conditions are in addition to some other conditions like educational qualifications for the jobs advertised.
Selected candidates will work under the Centre's flagship scheme 'Swachh Bharat Mission'.
"Under Swachh Bharat Mission (SBM), block coordinators and cluster motivators are being hired on contract for limited period for the public campaign. They will be required to motivate people and raise their awareness level with regards to the campaign.
"Having toilet and other conditions are the government of India guidelines, which the state government has followed," Kurukshetra's Deputy Commissioner, C G Rajini Kaanthan told over phone today.
The DC said that individuals who are having toilets in their respective houses will be given preference.
"The candidates are first expected to be following the things which are at the core of the campaign and only then we can expect them to make others aware about the need to have toilet and not to defecate in open and so on," he said.
When asked how it will be ensured that applying candidates actually have a toilet and don't defecate in open, the DC said "the candidates need to give a self declaration/undertaking, which we can get verified at any time".
Prabhjot Singh, additional deputy commissioner-cum- Chief Executive Officer of Kurukshetra DRDA, said that they put in the toilet condition as per the guidelines of the Central government.
He said that 12 cluster motivators and six block coordinators would be hired on contract for a particular period.
