Police spokesperson Gajanan Kabdule said that ACP Dilip Gore and his team which is probing the Parmar suicide case today searched Chavan's Yeoor hill residence and found 62 bottles of foreign liquor worth Rs 52,200 in total.
A case was registered against him under the Prohibition Act at the Vartak Nagar police station and he was arrested this evening.
Chavan's pre-arrest bail petition is pending before the Bombay High Court which has given him and three other corporators interim protection from arrest.
Parmar, a Thane-based builder, committed suicide last month alleging harassment for bribes by a nexus of corporators and officials in the Thane Municipal Corporation.
