Burari shootout fallout of personal enmity: Police

The Delhi Police suspect that the Burari shootout, in which suspected members of Gogi gangallegedly killed three persons, including a woman passer-by, was fallout of a personal enmity.

The members of the criminal gang yesterday opened fire at a group of men, suspected to be the members of a rival gang in north Delhi's Burari area, the police said.

A motorcycle-borne man, identfied as Raj Kumar, was also killed after being hit by a speeding vehicle during the time of the incident, they said.

The post-mortem of the four deceased -- Mukul,Sanjeet, Kumar and Sangeeta -- was carried out at LNJP Hospital here today.

The probe in the case was taken over by the Special Cell.

The police said that around eight to nine rounds were fired by the Gogi gang members for around five minutes. It is suspected that Jitender Gogi, the kingpin of the Gogi gang, who is carrying a reward of Rs four lakh on his arrest by the Delhi Police was also in the car along with his gang members, the police had said.

"Mukul's maternal uncle Deepak was allegedly killed by the Gogi gang in 2015. Mukul was following up on that case and was arranging witnesses," an officer privy to the probe said, adding Deepak allegedly had an affair with Gogi's cousin and used to boast about it.

Mukul was accompanied by Jitender, Surender and Himanshu, who sustained injuries during the incident. All three of them were assisting Mukul in defending his uncle's case.

Deepak's brother, who is posted in the Delhi Police, was also facing threat from Gogi for pursuing the case. He had been provided police security, the officer said.
