Shakti Soni, a resident of Rohini whose father runs a business of tyres in north Delhi's Mayapuri, was arrested on June 27, police said today.
Police said Shakti had robbed two money changers, who exchange currency of one country for that of another, at gunpoint in March and June this year and robbed Rs five lakh and 10,000 dollars from them respectively.
"Shakti used to contact money exchangers on the pretext of purchasing dollars. When victims came to his given address, he asked them to sit in his car in which he alongwith his friends robbed them at gunpoint," a police officer said.
The complaint against Shakti was lodged on June 24 by Santosh Srivastava, a money exchanager, who alleged that Shakti had contacted him to purchase 10,000 USD.
"When Santosh reached at the given address, Shakti drove the car to a secluded place where he and another accused robbed him of his dollars worth Rs 6 lakh at gun-point. They then threw him out of the car and fled away," the officer said.
