Somak Chowdhury, a second-year student of general surgery at Calcutta National Medical College, fell from the terrace of the emergency ward building at around 10 pm yesterday, a senior officer of Kolkata Police said.
"The deceased person was drunk and we are trying to find out whether it is a case of accident or there is some foul play in it," the officer said.
A letter has been recovered from the student's pocket, police said.
"We have spoken to his friends, fellow students, the professors and found that Chowdhury was quite a jolly person. We are probing the matter," the officer added.
