On complaint of the victim that she was kicked in the abdomen by her husband and thrashed by in-laws for dowry, which led to her miscarriage, police lodged case against the three on Monday.

A 'quick' child is a foetus that has developed to such a stage that it moves within the womb of mother.

In her complaint, the woman said she was married to Harpal on July 5 last year. She alleged she was beaten on several occasions by her in-laws, who were pestering her for more dowry and claimed she was beaten on October 15 which led to her miscarriage.

Police said her medical reports from Civil hospital Phillaur and Government Medical College Amritsar confirmed injuries to her and death of quick unborn child.

Case was registered against the three under Sections 316 (causing death of quick unborn child by act amounting to culpable homicide), 323 (causing hurt) and 34 (acts done by several persons in furtherance of common intention) of the IPC.
