Police inspector (Crime) S J Khairnar of the Shree Nagar police station told PTI that one of the servants of the jewellery shop had opened the shop late last night with the help of stolen keys and allegedly committed the act.
A hunt is on to trace the worker who originally hails from Jodhpur district of Rajasthan, the police said.
According to the complaint by the owner of Mangilal Chimnaji Jewellers, Babulal G Devasi, the worker Dayal Mangilal Devasi allegedly stole the keys to the shop, opened the shop at night and fled with gold and silver jewellery worth Rs 50.14 lakh. The booty included cash worth Rs 6.50 lakh, the police said.
