The state government informed the Central Administrative Tribunal (CAT) here of its decision of not extending Reddy in the post as the "government thought it fit for not extending his term in view of the pending CBI enquiry against him."
Accordingly, the Hyderabad bench of CAT disposed of Reddy's petition in which he had earlier sought direction to the Centre and state government to continue him as the DGP (head of police force) for a period of two years from the date of his appointment on September 29, 2012.
He said the Supreme Court's directions are specific about the appointee to the post of DGP being in office for a minimum period of two years from the date of his appointment, irrespective of the date of superannuation.
Based on a complaint filed by senior IPS Officer Umesh Kumar, the Apex Court on September 6 ordered a CBI probe against Dinesh Reddy for allegedly amassing disproportionate assets along with his wife. It also slammed the state government for not conducting any probe against Reddy when copy of the complaint was forwarded by the Centre.
A bench of justices B S Chauhan and S A Bobde directed the CBI to conduct the probe and file a status report within four weeks.
