CBI's charge sheet in the Aircel-Maxis deal is likely to get delayed further as Law Ministry has sent the file back to the agency raising queries on its findings.
CBI sources said the agency has sought the opinion of Attorney General G E Vahanvati after completing its investigations into the allegations of corruption in the Aircel-Maxis deal in which the role of then Telecom Minister Dayanidhi Maran is under scrutiny.
Maran has denied allegations against him.
The sources remained tightlipped about the queries sent by the Ministry but said they will soon be replying to them.
The agency wanted to known from Law Ministry whether a charge sheet can be filed against Maran and others with the available evidence as CBI did not get proper response to its Letter Rogatory sent to Malayasia.
The sources said they have enough evidence which could result in a charge sheet but in the absence of corroborative response of LR from Malaysia the need was felt to take the opinion of Vahanvati.
Maxis has claimed that probe in the case is affecting its business and it was not involved into alleged illegal activity.
The investment of Astro in Sun Direct TV is also under the scanner of the agency. The company has told the agency that it has followed all the rules of the RBI and there was no illegality in its investment.
