"State Director Khadi and Village Industries, Commission G Venkatanarayana and his wife Venkateswari Devi were sentenced to undergo rigorous imprisonment for a period of two years and one year respectively for acquiring disproportionate assets valued at Rs 47.01 lakh," CBI said in a release today.
The Khadi and Village Industries Commission is a statutory body established under the Ministry of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises.
The Anti-Corruption branch of the agency investigated a case against Venkatanarayana during December 1989 to April 2002. It is alleged that he acquired assets in his name and in the name of his wife against his sources of income of Rs 32.88 lakh, it said.
On completion of the trial, the CBI Cases Additional Special Judge also imposed a total fine of Rs one lakh on them, it said.
