Asked whether CBI will examine the Prime Minister in connection with the coal scam, agency Director Ranjit Sinha told reporters,"I cannot rule out or confirm. I do not want to make comments in this regard."
His comments were sought in the wake of a report that the investigation team in the coal allocation scam has suggested questioning the PM which the CBI Director has put on hold.
On the question of internal communication on the issue, Sinha said he could not reveal the file details to the media.
The issue arose when 'missing' files related to allocation have come under fire from the Supreme Court which has asked the Coal Ministry to provide complete details about the files to CBI.
Holding that the missing documents were "vital" to the probe, the Supreme Court had directed the Coal Ministry to file an FIR with CBI if it ultimately failed to trace any of the documents sought by the agency.
On August 29, the bench had asked CBI to provide within five days a list of documents, files and information sought by it to the Coal Ministry which, in turn, was required to furnish the same in two weeks' time.
