CBI is carrying out probe against Tata Teleservices limited for alleged violation over grant of dual technology license and non-compliance to the roll-out obligation in the 2G spectrum scam, Rajya Sabha was informed today.
This was stated by Union Telecom Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad while replying to written questions of BJP MP Dilipbhai Pandya.
Pandya had asked about the progress made by the CBI and Enforcement Directorate (ED) in connection with their probe in the 2G scam.
Prasad said the CBI had completed its probe in the main case and filed one charge sheet and two supplementary charge sheets.
However, based on an Interim Appeal filed by an NGO before the Supreme Court, the then director of the CBI had reviewed the matter and ordered further probe in the case on the issue of roll out obligation and dual technology, in respect of Tata Teleservices Limited and Tata Teleservices (Maharashtra) Limited.
"Further investigation is also in progress," the minister replied.
The probe was ordered by the then CBI Director Ranjit Sinha.
The Minister also said that as many as 16 show cause notices have been issued under Foreign Exchange Management Act (FEMA) to 16 companies for alleged violation totalling to Rs 13,974.33 crores in 2G spectrum scam.
"ED is conducting investigations under FEMA and under Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA). 16 Show cause Notices for alleged violation of FEMA totalling Rs 13,974.33 crores have been issued against 16 companies," he said.
He said attachment of property worth Rs 223.55 crore has been carried out in one case while in another Rs 742.58 crore has been carried out under PMLA.
"...Further proceeding in respect of attachment has been stayed by the Supreme Court of India," he said.
He said probe in one case was completed and a charge sheet against the then Telecom Minister Dayanidhi Maran had been filed.
"Further investigation on some issues is still underway," he said.
