Hitting out at the ruling TDP- BJP combine for not granting special category status to Andhra Pradesh even 15 months after coming to power, state Congress today urged Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu to lead an all- party delegation to Delhi on the issue.
Recalling that the TDP-BJP had promised special status to Andhra Pradesh during the elections last year, state Congress president N Raghuveera Reddy claimed that concern is growing among people over the status not being granted.
Naidu had failed to raise the issue when Prime Minister Narendra Modi visited the state in October last for laying foundation stone to the state's capital city, Raghuveera Reddy alleged.
In a letter, the PCC president requested the Chief Minister to lead an all-party delegation to the Prime Minister before the winter session of parliament concluded.
Congress president Sonia Gandhi and vice-president Rahul Gandhi had raised the issue of special status to AP on different occasions, he said.
The promise of special category status to new Andhra Pradesh (post-bifurcation) was made by the then Prime Minister Manmohan Singh on the floor of parliament when the AP Re-organisation Act was passed last year.
