A team of senior Election Commission officials, headed by Chief Election Commissioner A K Joti, would begin their two-day visit to Gujarat tomorrow during which they will review the preparedness for the assembly polls, expected to be held within the next two months.
The delegation comprises Election Commissioners O P Rawat and Sunil Arora along with around 12 other senior officials of the poll panel, the state government said in an official release.
On Monday, the EC officers would meet representatives of the recognised political parties in the city. The meeting is aimed at understanding their concerns and suggestions in order to conduct the free and fair polls, said the release.
The panel will also conduct a meeting with all the District Election Officers and senior police officers at Gandhinagar to review different aspects of election management, such as electoral rolls, election management plan, polling stations, voter education and the use of social media.
As the EC has already announced to use paper trail- enabled electronic voting machines for future elections, the poll officials will flag off a mobile EVM-VVPAT Demonstration Centre, which will visit all assembly areas of Gandhinagar to create awareness about VVPATs.
A digital atlas and a pictorial book on voters' awareness activities would be unveiled during the visit of the poll panel, said the release.
On Tuesday, the delegation will hold a meeting with nodal officers to discuss issues related to the election expenditure management as well as the law and order scenario.
Later that day, the poll panel will hold a meeting with the state Chief Secretary, Additional Chief Secretary (Home), and the Director General of Police to assess various aspects related to the law and order, stated the release.
