A centralised kitchen to provide midday meals to 20,000 children daily will be set up in Telangana by the Akshay Patra Foundation (TAPF) jointly with CLP India, one of the largest foreign investors in the Indian power sector.

The kitchen will come up in Mahbubnagar district and serve students of identified schools and 'anganwadis' in Ammapur, Muthyalampalle, Varna, Perur among other areas of the district and is expected to be constructed by August 2019, a press release from CLP said.

The company said it signed a Memorandum of Understanding Monday with TAPF to this effect.

Under the agreement, CLP will fund the design and construction of the kitchen, while TAPF will be responsible for the day to day operations and supply of wholesome and well-balanced nutritious meals to the schools and anganwadis.

TAPF will attempt to employ the staff for the kitchen from the communities around the kitchen.

Dr Priyesh Modi, Head Corporate Social Responsibility, CLP India said "The kitchen in Mahbubnagar will be our second venture with TAPF. We have partnered for provision of 5,000 meals a day for more than two years in Hubli, Karnataka.

We feel proud in partnering with TAPF to meaningfully serve and empower the communities around our plants."
