The Centre has declined extension in service of Director General of Meghalaya Police Rajiv Mehta.
The state government had written to Union Home Ministry seeking extension for Mehta and cited his efforts related to anti-insurgency operations started by it in Garo Hills, official sources said.
The Appointments Committee of Cabinet has declined the proposal of Home Ministry for extension of his tenure for a period of three months, beyond his superannuation, an order issued by Department of Personnel and Training said.
Mehta, an IPS officer of 1981 batch belonging to Assam Meghalaya cadre, retired yesterday.
Senior IPS officer S K Jain has been given additional charge of the post of DGP.
