Centre done with feasibility study for NTPC Telangana plant

The Centre today said the technical feasibility and environmental impact assessment has been done for enhancing capacity of NTPC's Ramagundam Plant which will help generate additional 4,000 MW of power in the Central Sector for Telangana.
Union Labour Minister Bandaru Dattatreya said in a statement, as per the commitment made in Andhra Pradesh Reorganisation Act for creation of additional power generation capacity of 4,000 MW for Telangana, NTPC's Ramagundam plant is being expanded in two Phases.
In the first phase, two units of 800 MW and in second phase, three units of 800 MW will be added, the statement said, adding that for this purpose technical feasibility study has been completed and environmental impact study has also been done.

"All necessary formalities are completed. For environment clearance, the Ministry is meeting on November 26, 2015 and environment clearance is expected thereafter in a couple of weeks, and foundation stone laying ceremony is scheduled some time in January, 2016," the minister said.
In the meanwhile, the land for the disposal of ash needs to be finalised by the Telangana government in consultation with NTPC, he said.
The present generation capacity of Ramagundam NTPC plant is 2,600 MW of which Telangana is allocated 726 MW as its share.

The minister informed that the Bhupalapalli power plant, where 500 MW power capacity in Phase-I is already commissioned, another 600 MW in Phase-II is scheduled for commercial operation from this month end.

The minister added the government is ready to allocate two solar parks of 500 MW power capacity each to Telangana, for which the state has to provide necessary land.
He further said the central government has sanctioned Rs 800 crore for the state of which Rs 120 crore is for Warangal district itself, that will help separate domestic and industrial electricity feeders.
By implementing the aforementioned projects, the state will be able to have quality and uninterrupted (24 hours) power supply with at least 9 hours supply for the farmers.
