Sources said the Ministry of Home Affairs decided to sanction the amount to the girls after a report from the district Superintendent of Police (SP) stated that the victims' family was wary of sending the girls to their villages fearing threat from Maoists to them.

The girls aged around 11-12 years were found by a joint squad of CRPF and state police on November 4 from the Madded area of the district when they were out on patrol.

"If required, the Home ministry will ensure more assistance for the education of the victims and to resettle the families," they said.

"The girls said Naxals Kudiam Gujja and his accomplices forcibly brought them here and subsequently they were raped by Maoists identified as Kudiam Gujja, Nagesh and Shivajee. The girls said they were 11-12 years old. In order to confirm their age, an ossification test is being done," the CRPF had said.

The district police had also registered a case against the three ultras.

The police had said the "girls alleged that the ultras forcibly picked them up from their houses and make them work as Bal Sangham members and forced them to have physical relations."

The medical examination of the two girls had confirmed sexual abuse, the CRPF had said.
